Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I know, it’s a bit late, but I Celtic Thunder was just on and my feet were a-tapping.
Our handwriting is one of those traits that identify us. I remember learning cursive writing in the second grade. I can still hear Sister Mary Martha telling us, Open those loops. There needs to be more slant. Drop that tail all the way down to the next line. I brought home papers filled with loop after loop for a line of lower case l’s and smaller ones for lower case e’s. I always give the credit to Sister when someone compliments my handwriting.
But have you heard that several states are considering eliminating teaching cursive writing? I was glad to hear I wasn’t the only one who thinks that’s crazy. Visit Cottage Quotes and imagine what Lord Byron might have said.
One of my favorite books is The Pearl Diver. It’s about a young Japanese woman who loses everything and has to start over. Her loss wasn’t the same as the Japanese face today, but the sense of determination is the same. Next week I’ll have a more adventurous story On the Bookshelf.
And if you haven’t peeked in my Writer’s Window, how many times would you count what I counted thirty-seven?
