Get your attention? That’s what a good title does, whether for a blog teaser or a novel.
I saw this book in the ‘Used Books for Sale’ room at our local library. I chuckled when I first read the title and kept perusing. But I kept going back and finally bought the darn thing. It was only 50 cents and with that title, how could I not?
How do you choose the books you read? I’m reading one now, Remarkable Creatures, by Tracy Chevalier which was recommended by one of my Rowdy Readers. The Sunday Times in London describes the book “. . . a moving story of the resilience of an unusual female friendship and of ground shifting beneath people’s feet as new discoveries force them to look at the world with fresh eyes.” Remarkable Creatures could refer to the two women, or the fossils they find that rock the religious world in the early 1800’s.
So would a rose by any other name smell so sweet? In the world of books . . . not always. Look through this week’s Writers’ Window for a peek at titles.
And On the Bookshelf I’ve introduced my Rowdy Readers and left a list of some of the books we’ve read over the last 20+ years.
